About North Denes Garage
North Denes Garage was originally opened as a vehicle storage facility
at Number 1 Sandringham Avenue, Great Yarmouth in the early 1900's by
Leonard Morris, the grandfather of the current Retailer principle, and
still continues to trade from these premises.
In 1923 petrol pumps were added and on the 23rd July 1923 the first
delivery of petrol was made. This is the first recorded date and is
used by the family as a start date although the business is actually
slightly older.
The Garage was used as a storage facility for many years with Leonard
Morris carrying out repairs and general engineering work along with
general dealing and the buying and selling of Motor Vehicles.
During the Second World War the Garage was used as an Ambulance station
and Mrs. Eva Morris (Leonard's wife) was one of the Ambulance drivers.
After the war, Leonard Morris was joined by his two sons Syd and Bob who
further enhanced their Father's skills and began to grow and expand the
business, keeping pace with the massive technical advances that we have
seen with the motor vehicle over the years.
The garage has been a MOT Testing Station since the government first made
it a requirement for cars to have a MOT Test and remains a testing station
to this day.
In the 1960's the Garage was appointed as an agent for Standard Triumph
and started to sell new vehicles as well as used. This continued until 1972
when, with poor supply of vehicles and spare parts etc due to the national
strikes, Triumph was relinquished and the Datsun franchise taken in its place.

|
This was short lived and in 1974 North Denes Garage was appointed "Skoda Main
Agent" for Gt Yarmouth and surrounding area.
Robert Morris joined his Father and his Uncle in 1976 and was "taught the
family way of business". His brother David also joined the firm for a short
period in the 80's. Sid Morris retired in 1984 and Robert became Retailer
Principle with his father Bob taking semi-retirement due to ill health.
Robert and Bob still own and manage the business today who, along with their
experienced and friendly staff, continue to cater for the motoring needs
of all their customers.
In December 2001 the garage closed its petrol station due mainly to
supermarkets taking over the sale of petrol. This however allowed the used
car forecourt to be expanded and a greater range of vehicles to be displayed
for sale.
As the business changes and improves to keep pace with modern technology
many new disciplines have to be taken on board, we are pleased to now have
a fully functional "web site and virtual showroom" up and running enabling
customers to view our used vehicles, make bookings and contact us 24/7 from
the comfort of their own home or office. We are also very pleased that
Roberts wife Lorraine has joined the company and is able to offer our
customers a female point of contact should they feel happier dealing
with her, and non technical explanations can be given to the ever more
complicated motor vehicle.
North Denes Garage is proud of its true "FAMILY BUSINESS" traditions and
prides itself on always giving its customers 110%. And will continue to
do so as it rapidly heads towards its "Centenary" year of serving the
motoring needs of you our customers.
